With the NBL25 season just around the corner and NBL SuperCoach kicking off, it's time to understand what it is and how you can get involved

NBL SuperCoach has offically opened and with all the hype around it, it's time to know what to do and how to get involved. Throughout this you will understand how NBL SuperCoach works and some of the tips and tricks to rise up the ladder and compete with some of the best.

Firstly why don't we start off with some of the rules and differences that NBL SuperCoach has, that may be different to other SuperCoach games and Fantasy games. The biggest rules are the salary cap that you start with, the number of trades throughout the season and how you score points. The major difference in NBL SuperCoach is the scheudle and how it changes from week to week. How about we dive in and go in depth on these rules and differences.

Salary Cap:

Each coach will start with a salary cap of 2 million dollars to create your team and pick your players. The lowest priced players are priced at $58,500 and the highest player which is Bryce Cotton is priced at a mind blowing $448,500. The toughest part is trying to find the value and a mixture of good scorers and players to help send your team up the ranks to have a chance at being the best coach of the year.

Trades:

The trades are the most interesting aspect of the SuperCoach season. Each coach will have a total of 44 trades to better their team from start to finish. You will have 40 trades meaning 2 per round and an additional 4 boost trades which allow each coach to have an extra trade for 4 rounds of the season, which is all up to you. Make sure you use them right though, trade out players who have made you good cash, players who aren't scoring what you thought they might and bringing in players that work well for the schedule. This is the toughest part to nail and if you do great you will be right up the top of the rankings, fail and its gonna be a long time scrolling to see your name down the bottom of the rankings.

How To Score Points:

Now there are a number of different ways to score points in NBL SuperCoach but the most important rule is how the scoring is broken down. As we have said you will have 10 players in your team, 5 are starters and 5 are bench players. The starters points are worth 100%, meaning if your player scores 20 SuperCoach points, you will see 20 points in your overall score from them. Where as the bench players points are worth 50%, meaning if a bench players scored 20 SuperCoach points you will see 10 points added to your overall score for the week.

Then we have a captain and vice captain as well, the captain is the player which you believe will score the most points and when you put the captaincy on them, that players points scored will be doubled for that round. You can change your captain from round to round but make sure you do your research so you can maximise your points from that week. Your vice captain is there just in case your captain doesn't play and if you captain doesn't play your vice captain will then receive the double point score.

Now how does my player score points you ask? Players will be awarded points for each statistic they have in their game. The scoring breakdown is below.

  • For each point scored in the game = 1 SuperCoach point

  • For each rebound in the game = 1 SuperCoach point

  • For each assist in the game = 2 SuperCoach points

  • For each block in the game = 3 SuperCoach points

  • For each steal in the game = 3 SuperCoach points

  • For each turnover in the game = -2 SuperCoach points

  • For a double double in a game = 5 SuperCoach points

  • For a triple double in a game = 10 SuperCoach points

So as you can see it is cruical to find players who stuff the stat sheet and have a really good overall game, sounds easy but trust us, it is a challenge. Quick little tip, easiest points are from centres and power forwards who are dominant and can achieve a double double regulary. Some examples are Sam Froling, Xavier Cooks and Cam Oliver, but lets keep that all quiet for now.

The Schedule:

Now the most unique part of NBL SuperCoach is how to follow the schedules of the teams. Some teams will play 1 game a week, some 2 games in a week and some teams won't even play a game at stages throughout the season. So it is crucial that you find players who are playing double game weeks to maximise your points and score to have a chance at being the SuperCoach King or Queen. We at The Basketball Fix have created a graph called "The Breakdowner" to give you all something to follow, have a look below.

So how this works is the red boxes are rounds you want to avoid that team as they have 2 or more single game weeks coming up for them. The oranges are single game week teams you can deal with as orange means the next round they have a double game week coming up and last but not least the green is a double game week where you want those players in for that round. Now that you know this you can start to put together your NBL SuperCoach teamn to start the season. One piece of advice, don't just look 1 or 2 rounds ahead, try and plan 3-5 weeks ahead, sounds weird but just trust us.

Now that you all know a few more of the basics around NBL SuperCoach and what it is, it is time for you to now go out there and make your own team up.
