The JackJumpers’ Real MVPs? Fan Awards Celebrate Tasmania’s Most Passionate & Quirky Basketball Moments

While the official JackJumpers MVP Awards celebrate the team’s best and brightest on the court, the Tasmanian Takeover Fan Awards take things to another level—celebrating the quirkiest, most passionate, and most unforgettable moments of the season.
From legendary crowd members to award-winning haircuts, our fan-driven awards show brings a dose of fun and humour to Tasmania’s basketball scene. Here’s a breakdown of the winners and the moments that made the season extra special.
Crowd Member of the Year: The Lady in the Light Green Shirt
When the JackJumpers faced the Adelaide 36ers, one fan stole the show. Dressed in a light green shirt, behind the post, she was a one-woman hype squad, fully emersed in the crowd’s energy every time Tasmania scored. Whether it was her fist-pumping, arms-in-the-air celebrations, or relentless enthusiasm, she embodied the spirit of the JackJumpers like no other. JD remarked, “Honestly mate, I missed half the game because I was watching her. She was amazing.”
If anyone knows who she is, let the team at The Basketball Fix know—she deserves a standing ovation!
Good Bloke Award: Scott Roth for Calling Out Online Abuse
JackJumpers head coach Scott Roth has always been about more than just basketball—he’s a leader, a mentor, and now, the well-deserved winner of the Good Bloke Award.
Earlier in the season, Roth took a strong public stance against online abuse targeting players and their families, particularly on social media. His speech was a powerful reminder that athletes are more than just stat lines and fantasy points—they’re people too.
“Missing out on your multi is no excuse to get online and abuse players who, at the end of the day, are just trying to do their job” said JD, emphasising the importance of Roth’s message.
For his courage in standing up for his team, Roth takes home this well-deserved award.
Golden Clippers Award (Best Haircut): Jordan “Teapot” Crawford’s Cornrows
Tasmania’s favourite “Teapot” brewed up something special this season—not just on the court, but on his head.
Crawford’s intricate cornrow designs made him a clear winner in the JackJumpers' hairstyle game, featuring clean, artistic patterns that added extra flair to his already electrifying playing style. No one else came close to the detail and style of Teapot’s look this year.
JD couldn’t contain his admiration, saying, “Honestly, the amount of work that went into that… that must have taken hours.”
Dunk of the Year: Clint Steindl’s One-Handed JamFans didn’t just love this dunk—they were shocked by it.
Late in the season, Clint Steindl pulled off a rare one-handed slam that had JackJumpers fans and teammates alike doing a double take. Not typically known for high-flying finishes, the retiring captain showed he still had the hops, throwing it down in spectacular fashion.
It made our podcast hosts wonder whether that was the precise moment he decided his retirement was imminent. “I've got to wonder if at that point, as he's in the air, that was where he made the decision. That's it. It's getting no better than this. I'm going out on my sword,” Berto joked.
Tasmanian Takeover MVP: Joint Winners - Majook Deng & Jordan Crawford
Tasmanian Takeover MVP: Joint Winners - Majook Deng & Jordan CrawfordIn a season full of ups and downs, two players stood above the rest when it came to consistency, leadership, and game-changing moments: Majook Deng and Jordan Crawford.
Deng was an anchor for the team, both defensively and offensively, making crucial plays and igniting the crowd with his passion and energy.
Berto also had high praise for Deng, saying, “Majok absolutely came into this season and crushed it. He crushed it off the court as well, with his efforts in the community. He’s no longer the forgotten one—his name is on everyone’s lips now.”
Crawford, with his “Attack first - attack last” mentality, played like he was 8 feet tall, proving to be one of Tasmania’s most dynamic scorers and a fan favourite.
JD summed up Crawford’s impact perfectly: “He was playing like he was eight feet tall. There were only a handful of games where he wasn’t the top scorer in it.”
Unable to decide on just one winner, the Tasmanian Takeover MVP Award goes to both!
