Team USA come out on top of The Basketball Fix Olympic Basketball Power Rankings

Now that all teams have played two games it’s now time for The Basketball Fix to release their Olympic Basketball Power Rankings. The Top 5 is very strong and some big names have been left out and a couple are probably higher than you think.

1: USA (2-0)

It’s hard to look past Team USA and their perfect start to the Olympics. They have dominated South Sudan and Serbia in their first two games and have a point differential of 43 points which is 10 points better than the next. They have also averaged an Olympic high 106 PPG and have also only allowed 85 PPG to their opponents. They come into their last game against Puerto Rico looking to advance out of the group stage with a perfect 3-0 record and coming into the Quarter Finals as the clear Number One.

2: Germany (2-0)

Fresh off of a World Cup victory in 2023, Germany come into this Olympic Campaign as one of the contenders. They have started great with a 2-0 record and looking to complete the perfect group stage with a win over the hometown favourites, France. They are second in points differential with an impressive 33 point differential, only behind Team USA. They have also held their opponents to the lowest average with the average score against Germany being 75 PPG. They rank third in their points per game with an impressive 91.5 PPG and are only behind Team USA and Serbia in this stat. They are firming as one of the dangers for the USA in what will be an intriguing match up if they do face off.

3: Canada (2-0)

In what is seen by the majority as the toughest group, Canada have started incredibly winning their first two games against Greece and Australia. Canada are really starting to build their chemistry and are in a very strong position to attack the Quarter Finals. They have averaged 89 PPG in this campaign so far, which is the fourth best average and have also held their opponents to an impressive 81 PPG, which is the third best average in the Olympics so far. They will complete their group stage against Spain in what will be an interesting match up and determine where Spain and Australia finish up on the standings. Will Canada rise in the Power Rankings before the start of the Quarter Finals? One thing that is a certainty is that Canada are a true contender to walk away with a Medal this Olympics.

4: France (2-0)

The last team with a perfect record is the hometown team, France. France have started their campaign in solid form, defeating Japan and Brazil in close performances. Seen by most as the toughest defensive team in the Olympics with Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert, they have restricted their opponents to 76.5 PPG which is the second best average only behind Germany. They are also in the top six for PPG with 86 PPG. There are major concerns on how far they can go because most see Japan and Brazil as not up to the level of some of the other teams in the Olympics, but they have made those wins look quite tough. They take on the undefeated Germans as their final game in what will make for some interesting viewing, will they get some hometown calls or will they run away with the victory against the Germans.

5: Australia (1-1)

The first of the one win, one lose teams to make the Power Rankings. They have established themselves as a team who will a tough matchup every single game. The big 3 of Giddey, Landale and Mills have propelled them into Medal contention which a lot didn’t see coming. Mills has been the question with his up and down start against Spain and Canada. The biggest query on the Boomers is can they be consistent for an entire game and string a great run together to bring home a Medal. They have averaged 87.5 PPG so far which is in the top six for the Olympics so far but the defensive end has been the problem with them allowing an average of 86.5 PPG which ranks in the bottoms six. They take on Greece with the chance of making the Quarter Finals but a loss could result in the Boomers heading back home to Australia.

South Sudan, Greece and Serbia miss out on the Top 5

Plenty of basketball is still to be played and there and some teams who will drop, rise and come out of no where to make these Power Rankings before the Olympics complete. Do Team USA make the Gold Medal game or bow out in the finals, do Germany complete the World Cup, Gold Medal double and can Canada shock the world and do some damage in these Olympics. With all of the teams having one more game to complete the group stages and plenty of changes ahead you don’t want to miss any of it.
