With the talk around the league of the NBL MVP trophy going to one of Montrezl Harrell or Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Melbourne United forward Jack White is flying under the radar. His start to the season has been as good as either of them and he has the added advantage of leading his team to one of the best records to start the season.
Jack White was one of the most sought after signatures coming into NBL25 and with his return to a Melbourne United this season, it instantly put them back on the map as one of the league's best teams. The former Denver Nugget spent 3 seasons in America playing in the G-League and NBA before deciding to return home and play for Melbourne United.
He has started the season on fire with averages of 13.9 PPG and a league high 10.9 RPG. His best game of the season came this past week where he led United to victory over the ladder leading Illawarra Hawks after putting up 12 points, 19 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. With numbers like that he is deserving of being in the conversation for the league's top award.
As the leader of this United team and star player he has helped United start the season with a record of 6-3 which has them currently in second place. With a big weekend ahead in round 7 where they play the Sydney Kings and New Zealand Breakers, United could sit on the top of the NBL ladder.
It is going to be interesting to see how this season plays out and who walks away with the MVP trophy but if we are to continue talking about it, Jack White is a name that has to be in the mix for the award.
He will once again put his best foot forward this weekend and fly under the radar but the talk around the league needs to step up for one of the league's best players. It’s going to be a huge week for Melbourne United as they assert themselves as one of if not the Championship favourites.
